Description
A tour of nature, legends, history and tasting.
Meeting with the guide at the entrance of Cerchiara and continuation to the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Armi, among the most valuable monumental complex of medieval origin. It is situated at the foot of Mount Sellaro, with an extraordinary view over the Plain of Sybaris and the Gulf of Taranto.
The ancient legend says that in 1450 some hunters of Rossano saw a deer slip into a small cave of Mount Sellaro. Once inside the cave, they didn’t see the deer but two wooden icons representing the Evangelist Saints. The hunters, amazed by the miracle, brought the tablets in their city, Rossano. Here, however, the tablets disappeared repeatedly to be then always found in the place of their discovery. It was decided, therefore, to build a small chapel that guarded them.
Continue to the town centre with a stop at the “Museo del Pane” (Bread Museum) where it is possible to see the original tools and follow the working process that starts from the grain of wheat up to the creation of the bread itself.
At the end tasting of typical bakery products in a bakery.
